On the THIRD Day of Christmas

On the THIRD Day of Christmas – my True Love gave to me - Three French Hens.  DAelbert_Cuyp_Roosterear to my heart, Adrian_Ludwig_Richter_007they represent the three gifts of faith, hope and love.  You will find them in 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love".

Boy have I experienced the impact of this, in 2008 – you know it's funny, when everything is cruzy and you are in a moderately comfortable position, you really don't think about the impact of these things – but when your natural, physcial circumstances change to the point that they are unrecognizable to their former selves – faith, hope and love are truly what remain….not natural love – that is corrupted by circumstances, flighty 'friends' who are only around when 'it's all good' - and runs only as deep as your purse – but true love is constant and faithful and remains regardless – and we all need that in our lives.

Sophia_the_Martyr I adore this piece of Russian Iconic art – It's Sophia the Martyr and her three daughters, Faith, Hope & Love.  I can imagine that in real life it's soft aged patina & shimmer from the gold…. I am sure it would be beautiful.

Please leave a comment and a link on the day with the image of any of them you use and on January 14th I will draw a winner – to recieve one of my original pieces of artwork.

  1. Thank you for the lovely images each day…but even more…thank you for the lovely explanation of the meanings. I had never heard or known that it was more than just a fun Christmas ditty. I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season with all those ones you hold dear near you, in heart if not in person. That is what it is all about…the love, the peace of knowing that when all else is gone the pure love of Christ is still there because it is eternal. No one can rob us of it because it is freely given and endless, we only have to accept it. And when we add to that the love of those who hold us in their hearts then we are truly blessed. My Christmas wish for you is that you will know how loved you are, not just for the 12 days of Christmas, but all year through.

  2. Beautiful images… and even more beautiful reminder of those most important things. I hope that you do feel loved this Christmas time because you are – very much so!
