Quotes I Like – By Topic

I am starting with my VERY favourite quote, & adding others that inspire me along my creative journey through life.  This quote has inspired me alot of my adult life because it reminds me that it is our individual impact that often means the most.  It’s not the 1,000’s of people we encounter in our lives that matter, its the 1’s that we touch & leave a lasting impression on.

To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, & refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, & wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes & sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony. William Henry Channing

Art when really understood is the province of every human being. It is simply a question of doing things, anything, well. It is not an outside, extra thing. He disturbs, upsets, enlightens, and he opens ways for better understanding. Robert Henri, The Art Spirit (1923)
